Some postgame notes from Arkansas' loss to Ole Miss

My column on Arkansas’ baffling loss to Ole Miss at home is now up on WholeHogSports.com. You can check that out by clicking here. Meanwhile, here are some notes from the game provided by Arkansas media relations and my own digging through the media guide and record books.

— Arkansas’ five-game losing streak to end the regular season is the longest in school history. The Hogs had lost four games straight twice before (1971 and 2004) to end the regular season.

— Arkansas has suffered four-game losing streaks three times this season, but this was the first streak to not end with a win. As you can guess, the five-game losing streak is also the longest of the season for the Hogs.

Rotnei Clarke is now two three-pointers away from tying Scotty Thurman‘s school record for 3-pointers in a season (102). Thurman set the record in 1995. Clarke hit 3-of-7 treys against Ole Miss, and was struggling entering the game beyond the arc. He had hit just 10-of-32 three-pointers (31.3 percent) entering the game, which isn’t necessarily a bad percentage. That’s saying a lot about Clarke, who entered Saturday eighth in the nation in three-point shooting percentage (43.5 percent).

Mike Washington‘s eight points, eight rebounds and one block moved him up the career charts. He now has 1,045 points, 647 rebounds and 106 blocks and is 30th on Arkansas’ all-time scoring chart. He passed Jerry Carlton, who scored 1,042 points between 1960-62. He also passed Darian Townes on Arkansas’ all-time rebounding list and is now 10th in school history.

— Washington took four charges to lead the Razorbacks, who absorbed six charges against Ole Miss. Washington has 29 of the Hogs’ 60 charges this season.

Julysses Nobles‘s 11 points was his highest point total since scoring 10 against Mississippi Valley State on Dec. 5. Nobles hadn’t played in two of the last three games. Marcus Britt‘s 12 points were a season high. It was just his fifth double-digit scoring performance of his career.

— Ole Miss shares the SEC Western Division championship with Mississippi State as a result of the win and the Bulldogs’ 75-59 loss to Tennessee on Saturday.

— Arkansas gets the three-seed out of the West and will play six-seed Georgia at 8:45 p.m. (CT) on Thursday in the first round of the SEC Tournament. The schedule, courtesy SEC office, is below.

  1. Brandon is the heat building on coach Pelphrey? They do not appear to have the killer mind set to put an opponent away. They do not appear to have a real leader on the floor.
I still love the HOGS but they can do better.
    Have a great day.
