Video: Greater expectations for Arkansas football

July 28, 2010 |  by Brandon Marcello

We’ll get a chance to catch up with Arkansas Coach Bobby Petrino and his assistants Thursday afternoon at a golf outing. Plenty of topics will be addressed, I’m sure. Until then,  here’s a video package I put together over the course of two weeks of interviews here in Northwest Arkansas and at SEC Media Days in Hoover, Ala.

The topic? Are these Hogs ready for the great expectations put on them by the Arkansas fan base?

Here’s the video summary:

Arkansas is surrounded by championship expectations from the fan base this coming season, but how do the Hogs feel about those high hopes? Arkansas’ Ryan Mallett, Jake Bequette, D.J. Williams and assistants Tim Horton and Chris Klenakis provide their take, while Mallett answers the question, “What is different about 2010 compared to other previous years with high expectations?”

And here’s the video, which you can also view on WholeHogSports.com:

Our own Tom Murphy spoke with athletic director Jeff Long about the expectations and how Petrino handles them last week at SEC Media Days.

“I think it’s great that coach approaches it the way he does,” Long said. “That’s why he’s a successful coach. I’m a little more cautious in my optimism. That’s my nature. But I think it says a lot about Coach Petrino and the way he approaches the game with our student-athletes. He welcomes those high expectations and uses it to motivate his young people and staff. Certainly, it’s motivated our fans as well.”

What do you think, Arkansas fans?
