The football season is upon us and you just knew the “You Pick ‘Em” would be back for another go-around here in the Slophouse.
First up is Tennessee Tech, a FCS school that is as heavy an underdog as they come. The Golden Eagles plan to use two quarterbacks and line up in multiple formations. The problem is, will the defense be able to confuse the Razorbacks’ offense enough to stay in the game?
Brandon Goodwin of The Oracle gave us some insight on the Golden Eagles, which I recommend you read by clicking here.
So how will the game develop? Well, my pick is below. Make sure to share your picks and thoughts below as well.
The Slophouse’s pick
Bobby Petrino‘s comment this week that he’d like to see Arkansas hold opponents in the early part of the season to an 80-percent failure rate on third down really stuck with me. I get the feeling the Razorbacks will be aggressive on defense, especially in this game, to gain some confidence. The result, I believe, will be a halftime score of something like 35-0.
Ryan Mallett will throw for 250 yards and 4 touchdowns, two running backs will finish with 100-yard games as the Hogs attempt to get the running game going and the reserves on defense will allow a late touchdown.
Final score: 55-10 in favor of Arkansas
Plenty more coverage coming up on WholeHogSports.com and the Slophouse on Saturday. Stay tuned.

Hog’s will 56-3! No TD’s allowed on this defense that has something to prove!
Arkansas will win this cupcake game easily. My prediction Arkansas 41 (1 field goal missed) Tenn Tech 14.
It’s 45-00 at halftime, and Mallett will have thrown for 250+ and 4 TD. Rushing TD by Green in the first half. Mallett stays in for the first offensive possession of the 3rd qtr, and leads the offense for a quick strike rushing TD that makes it 52-00. Mallett sits, and Wilson leads the offense (1 TD rushing under Wilson) until midway through the 4th qtr, when Mitchell takes over with a 59-00 lead. Mitchell will only throw 4 or 5 passes, and will score on a 55 yard option keeper, after the Hogs 2nd and 3rd string defense gives up a late TD. Either Joe Adams with a punt return or Dennis Johnson with a kickoff return, will score a special teams TD.
Hogs win going away, 66-07.
Hey Brandon, you’re not showing very much love for the offense or special teams! What gives?!
And if this team scores more than 14 points, we all need to be worried about this defense……again!
70-17
62-10, Razorbacks.
28-3, 1st Q. 17-3, 2nd Q.=Hogs 45-6 Half. 14-0 3rd Q=59-6==9-6 4th Q.== Hogs 68 TTU 12. GO HOGS
if the Hogs play their game Blowout,if some of the players start looking at the crowd, looking at the preety girls, thinking about how good they are suppose to be this year,Tech may hang around awhile.
58-13, THE HOGS.
70-17 hogs I think defense still has much to prove after this game.
Tejada kicks 7 fieldgoals before pulling a muscle in the 3rd quarter. The Hogs’ defense scores 4 TDs in the 1st half and keeps the offense on the sidelines, limiting Mallet to 2 TD tosses. Then we spend the 4th quarter playing “red rover” to run out the clock. Hogs win 63-6!
Petrino takes this opportunity to work on the running game which slows down the scoring. Arkansas is up 31-0 at the half. The final score is 48-17 with all 17 points for Tennessee Tech coming in the fourth quarter while the HOGS are getting back ups valuable experience. The national media sees Tech scores 17 and continues to blast our defense giving them an even bigger chip on their shoulder.
Mullet,i hope field goals are not needed, just want to see Hocker kick that ball into the endzone.
Im going with Arkansas 58 Tech 9
Defense gives up 3 field goals but no tds. And i predict Knile Davis and Broderick Green will have big games running the ball.
52-17
Mallet – 3 passing TD’s
Wilson – 1 passing TD
Mitchell – 1 rushing TD
Green – 1 rushing TD’s
Ronnie Wingo – 1 rusing TD
Tejada – one FG make from 36yrd (one miss from 47yrd)
from what i saw today,Georiga is going to be the beast in the East,Florida won but they looked very uncool.
Go hogs 63 to 10,Wilson throws 3 touchdowns and hogs have 200 plus yards on the ground
63-7 HOGS !
why are people picking Wilson to throw touchdowns?i’ve never seen him throw a touchdown as a hog.only thing i’ve seen him throw is interceptions and he does that atleast once in each game he plays in!
There are some attention-grabbing deadlines on this article but I don’t know if I see all of them middle to heart. There is some validity but I’ll take maintain opinion till I look into it further. Good article , thanks and we wish extra! Added to FeedBurner as well
My wife and i ended up being absolutely contented that Edward could finish off his inquiry using the precious recommendations he was given through the web page. It’s not at all simplistic just to possibly be giving out secrets that many some other people have been selling. We really keep in mind we now have the blog owner to thank for that. The entire explanations you made, the straightforward blog navigation, the relationships your site aid to engender – it is all overwhelming, and it is aiding our son in addition to the family reason why this subject is thrilling, which is extremely pressing. Thanks for all the pieces!
