No. 23 Arkansas beat Ole Miss 38-24 this afternoon at a rainy Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. Two weather delays caused the game to last 4 hours, 53 minutes from beginning to end.
The Razorbacks improved to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the Southeastern Conference with the win, and notched their first win against former coach Houston Nutt.
Before I get to writing, here are a few notes of interest from the postgame:
- Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino said quarterback Ryan Mallett suffered a shoulder injury in the third quarter and that’s why he didn’t return following the first of two rain delays. Petrino said the injury isn’t serious and Mallett should be ready to play next Saturday against Vanderbilt here in Fayetteville.
- Petrino said receivers Joe Adams and Greg Childs both suffered ankle injuries in the win. The extents of those injuries are unknown.
- Knile Davis rushed 22 times for 176 yards and 3 touchdowns. All three are career-highs for the sophomore running back.
- Saturday marked the first time this season an Arkansas quarterback hasn’t passed for more than 300 yards. Mallett finished with 196 and 1 touchdown, while Wilson passed for 71 yards.

this football team can be as good as they want to be,if they can fix the leaking D secondary they would be hard hard to beat.

really i don’t think the skills of the secondary is the issue,what i think we need is taller DB’s.if we’re trying to match DB’s that are 5’10 5’11 against receivers 6’3 +,it’s not going to work out.we need to look for taller DB’s!
Right you are Jeff,but untill they can get those tall DB back there,they are going to have to put on More pass rushes,in the first half against Ole Miss whenever OM looked like they wanted to pass,the Hogs were all over them,then in the second half came their usual lull or Vacation they take,and Jake Bequett was the only guy rushing.
Not to worry, guys. Petrino is always one step ahead. Current secondary commits for the class of 2011 include Jervohnte Riles (6’5″ 230lb 4.6) and Jashaud Sims (6’5″ 210lb 4.5), among some other speedy guys.
Yep, BP”s got some good recruits coming, now we need a new DC coming with some new schemes and a little more hardnosed football playing. I would like to see Willy stay as an assistant though, I like the guy, I just want someone else calling the roster and the plays on defense.
I feel so proud of the Arkansas Razorbacks that they beat the Rebels. I feel really bad that Ryan Mallett is hurt yet again and i would like to see him back on the field because i like to see him play and i think he is very hot but, some other people otherwise diagree but, i simply dont give a care what other people think it is just my opinion thats all. They have been trying to play a whole game this year and they did and for that i am really happy that they did so but, i think they still need to go that extra step to protecting the Quarterback and they need to move the chains. i mean when they are like a yard away or something like that and they are on their fourth down situation they need to go for it and pick up the first down and move the chains. other than that i think the team did a amazing job and a whole
