Atiga commits to Arkansas

May 18, 2011 |  by Matt Jones

FAYETTEVILLE - Arkansas picked up a verbal commitment Wednesday from Snow College linebacker Robert Atiga, who will be eligible to play for the Razorbacks next season.

Atiga (6-foot-3, 240 pounds) chose Arkansas over scholarship offers from Oregon State, Utah and Washington. He is expected to enroll at the school this summer and will have three seasons of eligibility for the Razorbacks.

Atiga recorded 60 tackles last season, including five tackles for loss, helping Snow – a junior college located in Ephraim, Utah – to a 10-2 record.

Atiga is the second late addition to the Razorbacks’ 2011 signing class, joining Citrus Community College offensive lineman Chris Stringer, who committed last week. He will help fill a void left at Arkansas by Austin Moss, a reserve linebacker who was given a scholarship release earlier this month.

  1. YESSSSSS!!!! This kid has some talent! He will compete with Terrell Williams and Alonzo Highsmith for the WLB spot, which should make all three of them better. Arkansas finally has some real depth at LB, and most of them look like SEC ‘backers! Welcome to the Razorback family Atiga!

  2. From what I have seen this kid looks fast, powerfull, and seems to be a good tackler. Yet the competition seems to look as though they might not be as good. So I can’t get a good read on this kid. I hope that he is just that good that he makes the competition look that bad. Welcome aboard the A-Train Mr. Atiga. Next stop Championship land.

  3. The Hogs have always had a stopper at linebacker on its great defenses all the way back to Thumper Harris. Maybe this kid’s the one.

  4. Well…im happy!! looks like we found a replacement for anthony leon….go hogs!!!

  5. Eeeaaasssy folks! Let’s not forget we’ve already got a thumper in the middle with Jerry Franklin. Terrell Williams did a great job filling in when needed last season.
And, I’m excited to get Atiga, but I’m going with a healthy dose of skepticism as far as how much I think he can step in and help next season, especially when he isn’t even on campus yet. Obviously it’s different for defense than offense, but it can’t help for him having not gone through spring practice.

  6. It’s nice to see our defense starting to look like SEC caliber across the board and now even the depth chart is starting to build right. Given the difference in competition levels I expect Atiga to play a relief role (which is sorely needed) the first year. Welcome aboard.

  7. Could be the reason a few Football players or leaveing,Better ones comeing in,i hope.

  8. An impressive share, I recently with all this onto a colleague who was carrying out a small analysis about this. And hubby the truth is bought me breakfast because I stumbled upon it for him.. smile. So allow me to reword that: Thnx for your treat! But yeah Thnkx for spending any time to go over this, I am strongly over it and love reading more on this topic. If you can, as you grow expertise, might you mind updating your blog with an increase of details? It truly is highly a good choice for me. Massive thumb up due to this blog post!
