FAYETTEVILLE - Arkansas released its depth chart Monday with few surprises.
Among the notable listings on offense, De’Anthony Curtis was ahead of Dennis Johnson at running back. Johnson, who missed most of last season after requiring surgery for an internal injury, has missed practice time in the last two weeks with a hamstring injury.
That has left the door open for Curtis, who is back at running back after a series of position changes left him at cornerback entering the season.
“I like De’Anthony Curtis,” Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino said. “He’s been a pleasant surprise coming back over from defense and understanding the offense so quick. He’s the ultimate team player and we certainly root for him to do real well.”
Petrino said a determination hadn’t been made in the position battle between Mitch Smothers and Jason Peacock for starter at weakside tackle. Peacock worked alongside Brey Cook at the position in the spring, but has had good competition from the true freshman Smothers this preseason.
“They’re going to compete throughout the week,” Petrino said. “They’ve been competing throughout the preseason. Both of them have some things they have to improve at.”
Colton Miles-Nash, who switched to tight end from defensive end in the off-season, was listed first team while Chris Gragg was listed as a back-up. But with the multiple looks Arkansas gives offensively, Petrino said the depth chart means very little.
“They’re both starters; it just depends on what package we’re in,” Petrino said. “They both do things well and both have different talents. Colton is a very physical blocker. I have been very impressed with his route-running and the ball in his hands.
“When you look at our offense with the fullbacks, receivers and what we do with our tight ends, we probably have 13 or 14 guys we consider starters.”
Defensively, Elton Ford tops Eric Bennett at strong safety and junior college transfer Alonzo Highsmith was listed as starter at outside linebacker.
With Johnson’s absence, receiver Marquel Wade and running back Kelvin Fisher Jr. have excelled in the kick return game, Petrino said.
Johnson is the school’s leader in career kick return yards but didn’t work much at the position during the preseason.

I think you mean Alonzo Highsmith. ???
Does this mean Wingo is 1st on the depth chart?
Is there a link to the depth chart somewhere?
Thanks for the information!
Looks like a freshman may get the chance to show-out on kick return… Hold nothing back!!
You can find the depth chart in this week’s game notes on page 13. The link is below.

I hope DeAnthony has a great year. He deserves a chance to shine.
The depth chart that was published has Dennis Johnson listed as 2nd TB and 1st KR.

I don,t think Dennis Johnson,s Hamstring is fully healed yet,i hope D Curtis has a break out year,LOOK for Kody Walker and Kelvin Fisher to play more than Expected.
I am very excited about this years team. I think this is the team that will do incredible things. I know that there is a bit of luck in how the ball bounces or overcoming referies biased calls involved with almost every game. But a champion caliber team wins anyway. This could be the year the Razorbacks “win anyway”.
Love seeing that depth at Defensive Line.
BAYOUHOG,you are right, there are times when it looks like the Hogs have 11 against 16,not makeing cry baby excuses,we have all seen it Happen,it is what it is,only if we let it be,need to protest like H,if they are trying to screw us out of a game, last year Hogs go up on Auburn 21-0,after that it was 11 against 16 the rest of the game.
Has anyone heard about Kane Whitehurst? What happened to him?
I saw somewhere that Whitehurst is being redshirted.
The depth chart that the university released has
Tailback
1) Ronnie Wingo Jr.
2) De’Anthony Curtis
3) Dennis Johnson
4) Kody Walker
Also, Although Dennis Johnson leads the SEC in KO return yards, he has not returned ONE SINGLE KICKOFF in fall camp. Don’t know why you would think he might do it in a game.
KO Return
1) Marquel Wade
2) Kelvin Fisher Jr.
BIGHOGFAN,my guess is they are doing everything to make sure Dennis Johnson Hamstring gets well, before start of Season.
I don’t blame them.. He is one of the biggest threats on our offense… He is the toughest runner out of ALL of our backs (except maybe Walker). He also has the best stiff-arm, balance, and vision…
If DJ can stay healthy and get enough carries, he could easily have 800-1,000 yards this season..
He just won’t be returning kick-offs. At all.
Was raised in a home with little love and understanding. Never any motivation. Always told I was worthless and would never amount to anything. Although I tell myself this is not true, constantly, deep down something seems to be wrong. I picture myself in a better place, leading a different life than I have right now, but to no avail. I am only 54 years old and struggling everyday because I know I am worth it and it will happen. Maybe with this system, this will actually happen before I die.
This is the precise blog for anyone who desires to search out out about this topic. You understand a lot its nearly onerous to argue with you (not that I truly would need匟aHa). You definitely put a brand new spin on a subject thats been written about for years. Nice stuff, simply great!
