FAYETTEVILLE - Arkansas senior defensive end Jake Bequette will not play Saturday at Alabama, Razorbacks coach Bobby Petrino said Thursday.
Bequette injured a hamstring in the first quarter of Arkansas’ game against New Mexico two weeks ago and missed the Razorbacks’ game last week against Troy. Petrino said he is hopeful Bequette will be available next week against Texas A&M at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
“It’s unfortunate,” Petrino said. “He made huge improvement throughout the whole week but he didn’t quite get ready to practice. I’m encouraged, though, with how much improvement he made.
“It’s really hard for him. He hasn’t missed games and is a guy that works out year-round, and is in great physical shape. But the hamstring needs to heal before he can get back out there.”

Bequette, a team captain, was a preseason first team all-SEC selection. He has recorded five tackles, one sack and a forced fumble in his limited playing time this season.
Sophomore defensive end Chris Smith will start in place of Bequette against the Crimson Tide. Smith recorded four tackles and a sack in the Razorbacks’ 38-28 win over Troy last weekend.
“I thought he did a good job,” Petrino said. “He got a nice sack and played real hard. His athleticism really showed up and his ability to change directions and run down the line. He didn’t always make the play but didn’t allow a cutback or a place for the running back to run.”

Im really tired of seeing these ridiculous predictions from Bama fans. You might win, but not a chance that it will be more than a touchdowns difference. Don’t try to talk reason to Alabama fans; they are going to win it all every year. Can’t blame them for feeling that way since ESPN acts as though they are the greek gods of college football. To hear them talk, they win the championship every year, but nope, just the two in the past twenty years.
Alabama is .500 in their last 6 SEC games and finished 4th in the SEC West when they were favored to win a national title. They can be beaten by solid teams (I’m thinking South Carolina on this one.) Once Arkansas gets over this hump it’ll no longer be an issue for them as long as CBP is here.
I hate it for Jake that he has to sit this one out. He’s worked hard enough and has been critical in helping build our defense. Fortunately, he did a good job and the defense should be able to force AJ McCarron to try and win it through the air.

I’m not making a comparison to Arkansas. You guys are the blue bloods of college football; I don’t dispute that. I’m just saying that the way you Bama fans swing your junk around, you’d have more rings to back it up. That’s all.

Alright, let’s see what these boys are made of. We are without our best offensive and defensive player, but CBP has built a team. I’d like an over-cocky Bama team to face a Hogs bunch that is about to silently go about their business.
I’m ready for a big game.
Something tells me that we will play error free football early and not allow them to make big plays. A couple of early TD’s on plays that we have not shown them will give us an early lead forcing them to throw early. When they do I see a pick six. Look for us to take a kickoff or punt back to break their backs.
Our D-Line will stack the line in the 4th quarter and you will not see the same thing that happened in Fayetteville last year.
Difference Makers:
(1) Joe Adams and Jarius Wright will not be tackled in the open field.
(2) Cobi Hamilton showed last year that the LSU D Backs (along with their now 1st round NFL draft pick) could not cover him. What makes Alabama’s DBacks think they can cover him if no one in the SEC could cover him last year?
(3) Greg Childs will have a MONSTER breakout game if they key on the rest of the guys.
(4) They do not have any one to contain Chris Gragg on short TE routes.
(5) We don’t have to hit the bomb every play; just 10-15 yards here and there to keep their defense off the field.
(6) Dennis Johnson and Wingo: one of these two will take it to the house and change the dynamics of the game.
(7) Wilson won’t make the same mistake Mallett made last year.
(8) Alabama wants to run the ball. Our defense is similar to theirs: neither team gives up over 100 ypg to opponents. So the rushing thing is a washout. Dead even.
(9) Look for the double tight end set to run the ball in the fourth quarter which no one in the SEC could stop in our last 7 games a year ago.
(10) If they stack the box, Petrino will take plays from the Colts playbook and throw to our speed guys down the line and let them beat their corners to the end zone. Make no bones about it; we have the speed to burn ANY Dbacks in the country. Ask LSU. We don’t have to throw bombs, just quick strikes to get our speed guys into the open field.
(11) The last four years our Dbacks did not get a significant amount of picks until 4 or 5 games into the season. The same holds true for Saturday. They will get interceptions that will take the crowd out of the game.
(12) Petrino’s game-calling. He has had a year to study and prepare. After this game, he will have beaten everyone we’ve played since his arrival except Florida & Kentucky.
(13) Our guys went to a BCS bowl game last year. Why would they be overwhelmed by 100,000 fans to a team that ended up 4th in the division last year?
(14) We will score over 40 points on them IF they don’t stop us early. Petrino will keep the pressure on by dialing up great plays. Take away the interceptions by Mallett last year and the pass overthrown in the end zone near half time and we score 37 instead of 20.
(15) It is our time to shine. Although they have a couple of studs on their kickoff coverage, we have had time to study them. Our kicking game will keep them backed up to their goal line.
(16) Our wide receivers are fuming. We only had one guy chosen preseason All SEC on our receiving corps. A slap in the face. They will make this crowd and this team pay.

The vaunted bama linebackers will be nullified by sending out 5 receivers…which they cannot cover.
