FAYETTEVILLE - Arkansas forward Michael Sanchez will miss the majority of preseason basketball practice after undergoing a back surgery, Razorbacks coach Mike Anderson said Monday.
Speaking to the Northwest Arkansas Razorback Club, Anderson said he is hopeful Sanchez will be able to begin practicing with the team by Nov. 1. Arkansas begins preseason practices Friday night with an open event at Bud Walton Arena.
Anderson is expected to further detail the injury at the team’s annual media day tomorrow.
Sanchez, a fifth-year senior, has been injury-prone throughout his career at Arkansas. He missed 28 games two years ago with a case of plantar fasciitis and 11 games last year with a stress fracture in his foot.
The Springdale native started 28 games in 2008-09, averaging 5.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.
Arkansas will open its season Nov. 11 with a home game against South Carolina Upstate.
