Comeback Hogs notch another win

October 22, 2011 |  by Matt Jones

OXFORD, Miss. - Great teams find a way to pull out close games.

It’s premature to label Arkansas a great team in 2011, but the Razorbacks have had a knack for making large deficits look rather small.

After coming back from an 18-point halftime deficit to beat Texas A&M earlier this month, the No. 9 Razorbacks had a similar outcome Saturday. Trailing 17-0 in the first half, Arkansas stormed back to take the lead and held on for a 29-24 win over Ole Miss at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

“I think our team really showed a lot of heart, a lot of character and a lot of toughness,” Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino said. “I thought the coaches did an excellent job at halftime of what we’re going to go out there and do.

“We knew we were going to execute. We had excellent leadership from the players; they were positive. They were excited that we were going to find a way to win the game.”

The Razorbacks (6-1, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) struggled to put together a full game. Ole Miss, ranked 10th or worse in every conference offensive and defensive statistical category entering the game, racked up 16 first downs by halftime and stymied Arkansas’ offense by controlling the time of possession.

The Rebels (2-5, 0-4) held the ball for 22 minutes, 12 seconds in the first half.

“We certainly didn’t want to start that way,” Petrino said. “You have to give them credit. (Ole Miss) had a plan, and they came out and executed it. They kept the ball away from us and ran the ball. They made plays in the first half when they presented themselves.”

Dennis Johnson sparked Arkansas’ comeback with a 52-yard touchdown run on a third-and-14 midway through the second quarter to pull the Razorbacks within 17-7.

Johnson finished with a career-high 160 yards rushing on 15 carries. He was the second Arkansas running back to have a career effort against the Rebels in as many seasons after Knile Davis rushed for 176 yards and three scores against Ole Miss last year.

“This game I told myself, ‘I’ve got to come out and be focused,’” Johnson said. “It was just focus and determination.

“It feels good stepping up and being the playmaker they want me to be.”

The run game, absent for much of the season, picked up much of the slack while Arkansas quarterback sputtered to a so-so performance. Wilson completed 13 of 28 passes for 232 yards but didn’t throw for a touchdown for the first time this season.

He did come up with big plays when the Razorbacks needed them in the second half, however – or at least distributed the ball to create them. Joe Adams’ 37-yard reception set up a 1-yard quarterback sneak to tie the game at 17-all with 6:48 to play in the third quarter.

Wilson added another touchdown run a few minutes later on a fourth-and-goal to give the Razorbacks the lead for good. The score was set up by a 67-yard screen pass to Adams.

For its offensive struggles at times Saturday, Arkansas still recorded seven plays of at least 20 yards.

“Playmakers make plays in big-time situations,” Johnson said. “You get the ball to your playmakers at all times and let them make plays.”

Like most weeks, there were still more questions than answers for the Razorbacks’ defense. But like three weeks before, Arkansas made the necessary adjustments to allow its offense to stage a comeback.

“I didn’t game-plan well enough in the first half and I’ll put that on me,” Razorbacks defensive coordinator Willy Robinson said. “I wish I had a different way of looking at them, but we had a much better grasp in the second half.

“The kids really believed in what we were trying to get done and did a great job executing.”

Arkansas likely won’t be able to win every game if its defense continues to struggled out of the chute. But in the end a comeback win is a comeback win, and a pretty good team recorded another one Saturday.

  1. Weve played these guys the last 4 years with alot of these players. Should have been no big surprises that would give Ole Miss their best game of season on us offensivly. Our D has got to play from the start, lets study film not the first half. One of these games were gonna run out of time.

  2. It was not a fun game to watch with the exception of DJ running the ball like a beast, maybe now we can get the running game and passing game on at the same time.

    A win is a win I guess

  3. The quote above from Willy Robinson that he “didn’t game-plan well enough in the first half” is very telling. Repeatedly taking the blame for not having the defense prepared is not the sign of a good coach. Having the team prepared from the opening kickoff of the game (not the 2nd half) is the sign of a good coach. Willy should have been let go at the end of last year, but he most definitely needs to go by the end of this year. If the measuring stick for a championship defense is this year’s Alabama and/or LSU, we will never get close to approaching that caliber under Willy Robinson. With the caliber of our offense playing like it can, if we had the kind of defense Alabama or LSU have to go with that, there would be no question who the number 1 team in the country would be.

A win is a win, true, but a 29-24 win over this terrible Ole Miss team is an extreme disappointment.

  4. I agree with wyohog, Willie has had ample time and personnel to turn this defense into a dominating or at least decent SEC defense. I am tired of the excuses for
lack of execution and sorry tackling. We have a great offensive team but defense wins championships. See LSU and Alabama, fire Willy or do something to start
a game fast because there will be a team that will get up on us and will not let us
    back in the game.

  5. you know I have been watching Vanderbilt and Tennessee and we will have our hands full with both teams. I think we will score but can we stop them from scoring
Tennessee will torch our secondary Defensive line has been very disappointing

  6. 1. We aren’t generating pressure on opposing QB’s in the first half of games. Why?

    2. Our cornerbacks our always in a position to make a play when the ball is in the air, but they seem lost and never attack the football resulting in big plays or touchdowns. Why?

    3. We always seem to struggle early keeping contain on the edge. Why?

    Answer: The Defense Coordinator

I like Willy Robinson as a person, but I can’t stand the way his defense performs. It has been and continues to be the weakness of this football team. We have pretty good talent on the defensive side of the football, but it is not being utilized to max potential. Period. Bottom line. It is a hard thing to say because he is a really nice guy, but it is the truth…

  7. We need lockdown corners, don’t have, pass rushers don’t have dominant defensive
linemen don’t have and a defensive coordinator that understands the SEC and not
the NFL. Simplify it ,these guys are not NFL but what we are putting on the field for
defense is not cutting it.If Petrino can adjust a defense at halftime of theAM game
then something is wrong with the defensive picture. We are going to run into somebody who can lock our offense down mark it down

  8. Well my questions is why did we start Madison and Winston? They both gave up TD’s today. Gaston and Mitchel have clearly done a better job.

  9. jmicha, you are right about someone locking our offense down. It’s already happened at Alabama, and it looks like it could very well happen at LSU. Neither Alabama nor LSU have offenses as good as ours, but their defenses are what’s going to make them strong national championship contenders. I hate LSU with every fiber of my being, but I have to admit that their defense is outstanding. We need that, or else we’re going to forever be just on the outside looking in on the national championship game.

  10. Wyohog and Jmicha, you are right Defense wins NC and we don’t have that.

  11. I’m not a Willy fan. But because I live in Ole Miss territory I can tell you that it had to be tough to get a grip on what Ole Miss would do because they have not done the same thing in any game this year. Plus Bolden was back today and he hasn’t played all year. HDN is throwing anything up against the wall hoping something will stick. Hard to gameplan for a schitzo.

  12. Wyohog and dafun1 I agree totally, Willy is a great likeable guy, no doubt, but BP is defintly built a possible national championship caliber team if only we had a good consistent defense. Sorry to say but I hope to see a change next year myself. Its been 4 yrs and now with experiance and depth, every game is WHAT Quarter or Quarters do we play, and when? Its gonna kill us in a game and maybe as early as next week. Make no mistake about it this Ole Miss team is the weakest of what was left on our schedule. We were one lucky pass away from losing to them.

  13. We have to put together four qtrs of play, but I’m proud of our team. Still don’t agree with Winston and Madison playing over Mitchel and Gaston.

  14. ole miss is the worst team in the SEC, for our defense to allow them to control the ball is unacceptable, period.
the defense is lazy, from coaches thru players. they think our offense will win every game. ain’t gonna happen. if we continue to play defense as we have, we will lose to either vanderbilt or tennessee. vandy can score on anybody and at home they will put up a fight. tennessee will be no slouch.
we have the defensive players, when they wake up they play.
we want to believe in willy, but so far he hasn’t justified his position.
you will not win in the SEC when you play as our defense has played.

  15. Yes we need a defensive coordinator who can recruit better as well. That would be half the battle.

And I agree that Gaston and Mitchell deserve more playing time at corner.

Thanks for another win Coach Petrino. I love watching our team on offense.

  16. I agree with what most are saying: to be elite, you must have a potent defense. We are far from potent, and have never been so during Willy Robinson’s tenure. We need a field general on the defense side of the football that can dial it up and adapt. We’ll see what happens after the season ends, but he’s not going anywhere during the season.

  17. I think the people who were all starry eyed talking BCS championship have come down to earth. Anyone who saw today’s game knows that any team left on our schedule are capable of beating us. We can’t continue to get behind by 17 or 18 points in the first half and expect our offense to continue to pull us out of the fire. If we let LSU jump on us like Ole Miss did today, we will get another beatdown like we got agsinst Bama. We simply are not good enough to play less than our best and beat a good football team.

  18. Blah, Blah, Blah! Whine, Whine, Whine. Our players earned a victory, let them have it. We are a top ten team and you sorry excuses of fans still whine. If you can’t ever be happy…JUMP!!! Put yourself out of your misery. If any of you ever played competitive sports then you’d know that games like this happen and this victory is just as sweet as the next. To play awful and win is great. If any of you ever win the lottery but gripe that you should have won it on the first number you bought instead of the very last, then give it to me. I won’t take it for granted I promise. And yes, now that Oklahoma and Wisconsin lost, the BCS championship actually just got more realistic. I wouldn’t say probable, but much more possible. You guys honestly embarrass me. I’m glad I don’t know you personally, or you might shed all that negativity into my life.

  19. Did we win this game or lose it? I’m pretty sure that we won the game, on the road, against a coach and team that has probably had O22 circled on the calendar for the past year.

I’m also fairly certain that OU and Wisconsin would have gladly settled for a tight squeeze, win wise, than what happened to them, today.

Get real, Razorback “fans”. The SEC is the by far the best [most difficult] in the country and Arkansas is 6-1… enough said.

  20. Well said dwpoo7 and Hog at Birth. A trap game yes, a win yes, a fine bunch of young men, hell yes. There is room for improvment on every team in the nation every week. Having a top 10 team is great, wishing you are the best is fine. We get better every year. Rome was not built in a day. If you think these young men are not giving 100% you don’t know our boys. Two top ten teams lost, we was not one of them. Count your blessings instead of whining , period. Great game Hogs ! WPS !

  21. Have not been on this site in a while. Found some valid posts early on, but wow the latter posts in relation to this game are awful. Ignorant much? So in your world, if a person questions the Hogs pathetic performance against awful Ole Miss, they are what? Stupid? Ignorant? Or maybe the drones that are happy with the Hogs are the stupid ignorant ones?

  22. I agree with Hog at Birth. My point is yes a win is a win but you strive for improvement to get better against better teams. Are we top ten ,probably in Offense but not Defense. I appreciate every win but improvement is always needed. Even you
have to admit that the defense does need tweaking. So you “get real” and face facts
Look at the stats and look at Alabama and LSU and answer this. Do you really want to continue to play with fire every week or get it started early and cruise?
I say get started early because odds are against comebacks every week
Now I am through whining . Go Hogs Ill jump if you’ll jump first

  23. I am happy with the win but disappointed with how the defensive game plan failed to even be close in the first half. Our DC has never shown the ability to game plan for a team and then execute it properly. I am tired of hearing all the lapses in defensive play falling on the players when the coach should be the one stepping up and saying he is in over his head when we enter the SEC schedule.

I have to disagree with dwp007 as Oklahoma and Wisconsin actually played much better teams than we did. I am confused on how you can equate Ole Piss to Texas Tech or MSU as that is like comparing apples and oranges. Ole Piss is a mediocre team at best and could not touch either of the teams listed above IMO.

I for one am tired of seeing mediocre teams shread our defense both on the ground and in the air game after game. You can make all the excuses you want, but if we want to win even a SEC championship, we must first hire a DC that can produce on a consistent basis.

  24. oh yeah definition of insanity keep doing things the same every time and expect
different results – see Ark Defense.

  25. In the NFL it’s survive the week, win is a win.College is about domination.Elite teams do not mess around. This was as poor a performance as we’ve seen in 2 years. It is extremely difficult to watch a game when the defense can’t stop anyone.Miss. is a very poor team, perhaps not in the top 65.This game more than any should reveal to all there is not one game left on the schedule that is not a potential loss, this team ain’t that good!

  26. I can’t help but notice that it is the same fans that stood behind coach Pel to the very end that want to criticize some of us stating the OBVIOUSE! There are knowledgable fans that have played football and basketball, as well as watch both for years on all levels, you can’t help but learn along the way. There are fans that root for their team every week like its a lottery number and what happens, happens. Then theirs those that care just a little more, fans win or lose we will state whats great and whats wrong, its our right with lots of time as well as money at times. Thanks to fans like us, and Long listening, our Basketball should be on its way to greatness again. I love the UofA and a blind loud mouth like HOG AT BIRTH can KISS MY A**! To each your own I will call it the way I see it. Whatch what happens during off season, We do have a great head coach who wants to win it all!

  27. It could be worse. We could have lost like WI and OK… BP will get the defense fixed or else Willy will be gone.

  28. I agree with most of you defense played lazy, wasnt ready, yes coahe’s fault. But Petrino obviously has some faith in willy or he would be fired, that said i trust petrino more than anybody on this site to build a team and if willly is who we got im sticking with him until Petrino has had enough. Also who on here did not have ole miss down as win. We all looked past them including the team and that showed. Plus that was classic HDN footbal, u all know he competes in big games that matter to him, and loses to the vandys and fcs schools. Guys if we get help from two or three more schools pluss lsu beats bama we could win the west, if we win out. That being said i dont think the media would put a one loss Arkansas in the NC game, but anythings possible….GO HOGS!!!!!

  29. dwp007, you’re an intelligent man, and I agree with you most of the time (Hog at Birth (I’m one, too), I don’t know about you, but my comments can be directed in your direction, too), but my complaints about the Ole Miss game are about progress and improvement, which really haven’t been made on the defensive side of the ball in about three years. In the SEC, if you’re not improving, both in player and coaching personnel, you’re standing still. And if you’re standing still, you’re regressing. In that light, I feel that we are regressing on the defensive side of the ball. We have two examples of great defenses in Alabama and LSU to compare ourselves to this year, and we are nowhere near either of them, and we won’t get there under Willy. It was time to cut our losses with Pelphrey (and Nutt, too), and it’s time (after the season) to cut our losses with Willy. It’s not being disloyal to the program to express that opinion.

  30. I have watched Razorback Football for 3 decades at least. Most of the teams have had adequate offense and great or good defense.
I think this years team has great offense and really sub-par defense. No pressure on the quarterback to make a mistake,no creating turnovers or fumbles no sacks. Alabama has always had adequate offense and trememdous defense. The offense will be inconsistent and need help, like last night against Tennessee. The
defense was consistent then the offense gets going. What we are seeing from Ark ( and I love them to Death) Defense is very inconsistent and hoping the offense bails them out. The games are getting ready to get harder and the defenses better. Offensive lockdown is coming. Vanderbilt is capable of doing it
so is anybody left on the schedule. Lets get it fixed now.
If personnel is the answer change it if coaching is the answer change that but something has to be done.

  31. I think it is fair to be CRITICAL of DEFENSE & OFFENSE yesterday. I can make arguments that Offense was actually worse than Defense during that game? I also think the difference with this situation is it is NOT the Head Coach. The team has the best record (6-1) since what 1992? Unless those frustrated were calling for CBP’s job, then I don’t see the point of the FIRE Willy crusade midseason and while games are going on? I hold CBP responsible for all of it. I expect him to fix it. If he decides to replace Willy at the end of season, I will not be out in the streets protesting. You are a hypocrite, if CBP decides to keep him and you continue with the I love CBP; but FIRE Willy Crusade. No one is an idiot or stupid on either side. We ALL know the defense has serious issues and our frustrated with the results. No need to base each other? My goodness folks.

What is missing is addressing who is accountable to the fans for the defense and that is Coach Petrino. Listen to CBP’s press conferences carefully, he is getting frustrated, he will get it fixed. I am upset with coaching in general because plays like the lateral that was a fumble that we did not jump on, and the onside kick that we did not go for the ball is a sad reminder of the team that lost Sugar Bowl to OSU because we do not attack the ball.

  32. wyohog is right on the defense has to be fixed,
    (1) Cornerbacks- need lockdowns-Mitchell and Gatson -Winston
and Madison are not these guys look lost
    (2) Defensive line- can not shed a block from a girl no pressure- Where is the great Robert Thomas suppose to be the next Mt Cody.
    (3) Defensive ends- the loss of tank hurts-Chris Smith is learning but still not there
    (4) force turnovers- fumbles, sacks, pressures and hurries
    (5) running QBs hurt us, we see a lot of them and cant stop them, even when Nutt and previous coaches had no answer for them
    (6) These defensive coaches have a problem – find it and fix it

  33. A win is a win. And, we need to improve in all three areas. The on-side kick was our mistake – no one went for the ball. The defense took too long to adjust and should have adjusted after a quarter, at most. The offense sputtered way too often. We probably didnt need the bye-week, but now I think we will roll from here on out.

  34. i have been a fan for 6 decades, which only means i am older than most here.
it is one thing to get run over offensively by A&M or jumped on early by auburn, but to let the worse team in the SEC dominate you for a half is just not acceptable.
anyone remember the second half of the troy game?
every week is tough in the SEC, but a pattern has developed with our defensive coaches that will cost us a game we shouldn’t lose.
if you remember before the season, our defense was to be our strength, especially our line, as willy said before the season started had “SEC size and speed”. he has not delivered.
there is nothing wrong with critizing something you see that shouldn’t be, it makes you no less a fan.
we have a problem. the LSU game doesn’t scare me, we will be ready. it is the next 2 games that scare me if we continue to play like this.

  35. Yeah Hog at Birth, I second rmmr. Unlike Wisconsin or OU, we had already lost one game and got really close to #2. They are also two teams with incredible defenses. Wisconsin lost on the last play of the game in one of the best football games I’ve ever watched. You can celebrate a win all day long, but I’ve played lots of competitive sports and a win like this always stuck with me. Ole Miss may have given us their best shot of the year, but the truth is the truth: We have been found wanting on defense for the past 4 years and it is getting old. Can you honestly say you are happy with the defensive performance of this football team the past four years Hog at Birth? Go look at the stats of our defense the past three seasons. They speak for themselves. We are bottom feeders in the SEC when it comes to defense and I’m tired of it man! We can be so much better and that is what we are saying. Call it negativity, call it whining, but we believe in this football team and what they can be, and that is why it is so frustrating. I love our guys on defense, and I know they play their tales off every game, but this isn’t about their hearts. I know they have heart. This is about the guy who is supposed to have a plan that puts them into position to dominate, and gives/teaches them the tools to dominate. If you gave this defensive group to Nick Saban, what would you see?

  36. Hog Authority, you’re right in saying that the offense played poorly yesterday. But the track record on that side of the ball under Petrino has shown continued improvement. The same cannot be said about the defensive side of the ball, and therein lies my frustration. Yes, my only complaint about Petrino is that he still has Robinson on the staff. I felt like Robinson should have been let go last year, but perhaps it will happen this year.

Look, Robinson as much as admitted that he didn’t do a good job yesterday. (“I didn’t game-plan well enough in the first half and I’ll put that on me.”) Then he admitted that he didn’t know how he could have done any better. (“I wish I had a different way of looking at them, but we had a much better grasp in the second half.”) I just hope this is enough for Petrino to decide that a change is needed.

  37. wyohog right again, its coaching man-we have recruited good players for the defense. I sometimes wonder why LSU and Alabamas
240 lb defensive ends are better and faster than our Defensive
ends of the same stature but they are. Is the food better in Alabama.Point being- what is the difference between us and them.
They have big faster strong cornerbacks- ours are small and slow- they have linebackers that can run like the wind, ours are
average at best- go get some of these guys.We are getting ready to build a great facility and have the best offensive coach in the country. Now lets get a DC who can find these guys-Saban and Miles cant get them all. If you continue to make excuses it becomes a way of life. I am tired and so are alot of folks of this defensive performace was on me. In reality if it continues to be then a change needs to be made.

  38. Wyohog, we have an accord. I think it is fair game to blast the defense performance based on what we see on the field. My point and I hope those wanting change understand it; is to say we need to be directing our frustration with defensive performance to Coach Petrino, no need for personal individual crusade on Willy. You have to look at the entire program from top down and make benefit assessments on the good and the bad, i.e. I once had a very beautiful girlfriend, she wasn’t very smart and brought very little to the table; nonetheless I probably held on to her too long too! It would have been pointless for my brothers and friends to bash her, it was not until they got to me the required change was made.

Until CBP our entrusted leader makes change; I just assume roll with what we have for now. We have very important game this week on road with Vanderbilt. There is NO TIME for household changes or internal turmoil. We are in this thing folks. Lets just tell CBP we need to kick some arse on all three sides of the ball with emphasis on HIS defense.

  39. jmicha, i’m with you. I can’t imagine a nicer place to live for 4 (or 5) years than Fayetteville. Tuscaloosa can’t be nicer than Fayetteville, and I lived in Baton Rouge for 2 years, so I can honestly say that the ONLY good thing about Baton Rouge is the food (which should work against an athlete trying to stay in top shape). I know going to a winning program is very important to these young men, but Arkansas is going to be at the same level as those programs if we can get the defense straightened out.

  40. I think we were very fortunate to win this game. Wilson clearly had a subpar performance throwing the ball and the defense looked slow and lost in the first half and last half of the 4th quarter. We had two weeks to get ready for the game and clearly something went wrong in the defensive preparation. Our defense had one good quarter — the 3rd — but spent the rest of the time giving up a lot of yards both on the ground and in the air. It was inexcusable that Ole Miss scored that last touchdown, getting a first down after facing 3rd and 20, and then giving up another first down on fourth and long. That is not the way to win championships. We have to start faster in these games. Vanderbilt will be a test.

  41. We always catch programs in the SEC on the way up or at least up when we play them.
    (1) Vanderbilt -best team in years
    (2) Tennessee- coming back-good running back( and what can we
not stop- the run) good defense adequate to shut us down some.
    (3) Kentucky- I guarantee will be good when we pick them up again-remember last time -they beat us at our place and then we have them 20-7 with four minutes left and lose.
    (4) In all of these cases- defense has been the achilles heal
for us. Hog Authority is correct- evaluation must be the whole
    program-offense,defense,special teams and recruiting-it needs
to turn to reloading-Alabama’s freshman are sad to say better than our juniors and seniors and bigger too. Saban cant get all of the Trent Richardsons- has to be another one out there somewhere, and why would any Wide Receiver not want to come to Ark

  42. Darius Winston was the best corner prospect in the US coming out of Wesh Helena. He was a five star. Both of our LB’s are at 240 and over 6’2″. Does Alabama have better talent. Yes, but the gap isn’t huge. It is not the talent as much as it is the coaching on the defensive side of the football. I like our LB and DE coaches, but the schemes from Willy Robinson have not been dominate.

  43. That should have been “West” Helena. Sorry for the typo…

  44. And yes I should direct this to Coach Petrino, and point out that I think a change at DC should have been made last year. But it wasn’t and we are in the same situation.

  45. I am not even going to blame our players on the defensive side of the ball because we have plenty of talent there. Where we are lacking talent is the defensive coordinator (Willy Robinson)!! I’m not whining about our players or our team, simply stating the fact we must get a defensive coordinator that is the same or damn close to the caliber coach that CBP is!!

  46. I’m not necessarily disagreeing with any of you guys, and would agree, that our defense has been more than suspect, for the past 4 years. I do disagree with the mid or in season bashing of a team that is 6-1, however.

Bobby Petrino is a gifted college football coach. The guy is absolutely determined to win a national championship and I would suspect that he is growing a little more than tired of having to spot the other team 17 points before finding a way to win games.

He is paid well to resolve team related problems, both on and off the field. If there’s a problem – and defensively, there are certainly some serious issues – Petrino will take care of it, regardless of what any of us have to say.

  47. Anybody noticed how Michgan State had 6 personal foul penalties against Michigan but still won, last night they had ZERO penalties against Wisconsin. U think some coaching and arse kicking was not involved?

Did you see 1-5 Arizona kick the living bejivers(sp) out of UCLA after Mike Stoops was let go? U think some coaching was not involved?

It is time we look for Coach Petrino to fix those special teams breakdowns, the defensive planning and scheming, and the anemic offense to start a against a pissful ole piss team. Missed tackles are covered up when you swarm the ball, loose coverage is OK when you get pressure to the QB, your turnover stats improve when you fall on the damn ball.

Now with that said, I don’t care how CBP decides to fix it as long as we can see clearly that change is being made. But surely we should not have to worry that Bobby Petrino understands he has got to fix what is ailing the team right now?

But we are one impressive win away from Vanderbilt from being right into the mix of BCS Contention. We need calculated changes to perfect what we have; NOT major turmoil during this season.

  48. HogAuthority, just to confirm what I meant in my post, is BP is a great coach and wants it all. He is building a program, and knows what hes doing. Our offense was hardly on the feild in the 1st half so timeing was their only issue to me. I’m just saying I believe BP will fix this in the off season if he thinks personel change is needed. I believe him to be a fair man and is giving Willy his fair amount of time as should be. But I truly see him making changes in the off season. He wants championships! I will not bad mouth people that disagree in a rightful manner in stateing their beliefs, but will not sit and read statements calling me a whiner or not a fan for my posts. Iam not going to harp on Willy, have always and still do respect the man, just not his DC positon anymore. No change during this season will help it will only hurt, but off season needs a revaluation is all I was saying.

  49. I agree with Hog – its up to Petrino to fix the problems whoever
is responsible and it all goes back to accountability. Like the
Army be the best that you can be. Coach will have to ask the
defense are you the best that you can be. I think the defense has
been broken for a while and the spare parts are wearing out. As the quote from the million dollar man a few years back. “We have
    the technology”

  50. dwp007,

You are 100% correct and you summarize the point well. If we were 1-6 wanting to fire CBP that is one thing. But we are 6-1 and best start since 1992. Who does not think CBP sees all of these issues with his team? He will fix what he can midseason and will evaluate his program at the end of the year like all great coaches.

Lets keep our pitchforks clean now, wait until the offseason and then bring em out for lively discussions as may be required depending on how we finish :-)

Last year we played in SEC #1 seed bowl and that is why complaints were few. We may play in the same bowl again or higher if we keep the faith and support the players and coaches.

  51. Bob Holt wrote an article titled “Dennis a Menace to Rebels”. The funny thing is that there was a cartoon character called Dennis the Menace. LOL! What a coincidence!

  52. rmmr,

I feel and know your passion. I have seen it a long time and I know you are as Genuine as a Razorback fan there is, I think the posters were probably just generalizing. Everyone is frustrated with the Team’s performance yesterday. Don’t forget the offense played a big role in their lack of time with the ball. Those 3 and outs and one time it was a 4 and out made it hard on the defense as well. They had no time to talk on the sidelines to cover what all was going on. That damnn Nutt came out with new packages they had not seen on film.

With that said; I hope we all can chill in Razorback Nation for another month or so trusting in CBP to do the right thing at the right time. Bobby is getting frustrating and will fix what ails. It is easy for me because I have a stocked bar !!! :-)

    GO Hogs Beat Vandy

  53. On board with that, HogAuthority – now, is not the time. We should all try to relax [without a 17 point spot] and enjoy the rest of the season.

    Go Hogs!

  54. jmicha, you say Tennessee will torch us,only chance they have of putting big numbers on the scoreboard,is if Tyler Bray is QB,dont know when he will be back from his injury,Hog defense needs to learn how to play First half Defense,i guess Willy tells them, just go out and do the best you can i will figure something out by Halftime.

  55. hey hogjim,I believe you are right it probably does depend if Bray is back but fact remains defense is the priority and as Alabama showed it probably doesnt make any difference who the QB is if the D is great then great things happen.Figure it out by halftime will not cut it but we have dodged the bullet so far.
    great post

  56. Did the defense struggle? Yes
    How about the offense? Yes
    Special teams? Yes
Not the way to come off a bye week. Bye weeks often produce games like that. Look for a totally different effort next week.
If that doesnt happen then there is real need for concern.
Accountability from the top all the way down.

  57. Okay its Monday morning and the past is the past, BIG things on the horizon. Lets all pull behind team in full support, for I know BP will help bring fire into the hearts of our D as well as the whole team. Still a very memoriable season in the making if not historic. WPS!

  58. 1st qtr 12 yards no first downs. Nuff’ said.
