Arkansas headed to Cotton Bowl

December 4, 2011 |  by Matt Jones

FAYETTEVILLE - Arkansas is heading back to the Cotton Bowl.

The No. 6 Razorbacks (10-2) will face No. 8 Kansas State (10-2) on Jan. 6 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The game will be the highest-ranked postseason match-up outside of the Bowl Championship Series.

“Our team looks forward to becoming part of the long-standing tradition the Razorbacks have with the Cotton Bowl,” Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino said in a statement. “I am very proud to be the coach of this team, which has stuck together all season long and kept competing. The mentality our players have demonstrated is what has allowed us to accomplish all we have this year.

“We’ve enjoyed success in Cowboys Stadium and the hospitality and experience the Cotton Bowl provides gives our team a special opportunity to compete together one more time. I know this game will be highly anticipated by our fans and the support they will give the Razorbacks will once again be tremendous.”

It marks the fourth time Arkansas will play in the Cotton Bowl as a Southeastern Conference representative and a school-record 12th time overall. The Razorbacks have a 3-7-1 record in the game, last playing there four years ago in a loss to Missouri.

It will be the first time Arkansas will play the game at Cowboys Stadium, which will host the bowl for the third consecutive year. The Razorbacks have a 3-0 record at the venue, beating Texas A&M there in a nonconference game each season since 2009.

Kansas State, a member of the Big 12 Conference, began the season 7-0 before back-to-back losses to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. The Wildcats won three straight games to finish the regular season, including a 30-23 win over Iowa State on Saturday.

Kansas State will make its third appearance in the Cotton Bowl. The Wildcats are 1-1 in their previous games, beating Tennessee in their last trip to Dallas following the 2001 regular season.

“We are so very proud of the young men in our program and the courage they have shown this year, and we are very pleased to represent the Big 12 Conference in the AT&T Cotton Bowl,” Kansas State coach Bill Snyder said in a statement. “The Cotton Bowl is a first-class bowl and organization and we appreciate Rick Baker and the entire bowl staff for their efforts and support of college football.”

Arkansas trails the all-time series with Kansas State 1-3, but the teams last met in 1967.

The Razorbacks last won the Cotton Bowl following the 1999 regular season. The SEC representative has won the annual match-up against the Big 12 three consecutive years.

The Cotton Bowl is scheduled to kick-off at 7 p.m. It will be televised by FOX.

  1. How does Hogs keep getting screwed in the bowls selection. We should be playing in the Citrus (Capital One) Bowl! I just don’t understand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Take it easy…they didn’t get screwed. The Capital One Bowl is not really considered that much better than the Cotton Bowl and based on location, it makes sense for the Florida bowls to take Georgia and South Carolina.
Also…..this allows us to play the highest ranked BCS team that is not going to a BCS Bowl (#8 K. State).
And…it give the Razorback fans a chance to flock to Dallas and attend the game without heading all the way across the country.

You may not like it (I do)….but we certainly did not get “screwed”.

  3. The Cotton Bowl is now considered to be on-par with the CapitolOne Bowl, due in large part to its move to Cowboys Stadium. Besides, we’ll get free credibility for beating a highly ranked team that hasn’t beaten anybody.

  4. Well that figures. If there is a chance someone can pull one over on the Hogs you sure know they will. How does a team who is ranked 6th in the BCS drop down to the Cotton Bowl? How does a team the Hogs smoked in South Carolina get a better bowl? Pathetic!! The system is flawed. Don’t know how you fix it, just know it needs to be improved. Let’s go Hogs, forget the politics and just go out and WIN. It’ll be the best matchup of top 10 teams outside the National Championship game. WPS, beat K-State!

  5. Fans can get there and it will greatly help recruiting along with playing an opponent we will beat. There is a lot of positives here. The real issue is Arkansas not being in a BCS bowl because of the stupid not to take 3 teams from the Sam conference. Arkansas should have gotten an at large bid but because of the rule will not.

  6. Anyone saying the Capital One Bowl is a “better bowl” is only looking at the payout. It really isn’t thought of that way. And AGAIN….we get to play a higher ranked team by going to the Cotton Bowl.

  7. The BCS sucks, the Hogs are ranked 6th we don’t get a BCS bowl bid. Bad system, college football badly needs a playoff. I just don’t understand why there isn’t a playoff. It is the only division of college football that doesn’t have a playoff. Decide the championship on the field.

  8. The other thing that sucks is Kansas St., I don’t want to disrespect them but we need to beat a name school in this bowl. Beating Nebraska in the Capital One Bowl, is more appealing to me than whipping Kansas St. in the Cotton.

  9. Im pretty pissed right now… I could be wrong but I think there is better gifts for the players, plus you go to Florida in winter which is pretty nice

  10. Beating Nebraska is NOT “appealing”…it’s not 1995. Kansas State is the highest ranked team we could have played and a win will result in a higher overall final ranking for us.

  11. Winning a bowl game and going 11-1 will help recruiting. Especially playing in the cotton bowl recruits sees wins not that we didnt play Nebraska or not.

  12. We are #6 but I accept where we are ranked for now. I want to be in top five at the end of year and for next year. Slive is going to kill the 2 team limit rule. Funny thing is that we may finally see playoffs. If it is true playoffs, then we may have all SEC NC game every year.

Now for Kansas State. Come on down, I will be here waiting. KSU have number 71 Defense and #92 Offense. Hogs should roll. Hogs need to to roll. Bring it on.

  13. 4 of the top 10 BCS ranked teams aren’t in BCS bowls. Just goes to show that BCS bowls other than the Championship game dont mean squat. #6 and #8 are playing in the Cotton Bowl, while #23 is playing in a BCS bowl. Go figure!

  14. HawginbigD,

We can go to Disneyland after the game :-) I love it when the hogs come to town. Of course I am selfish.

For the hogs it don’t matter WHO we play, we must win. We must leave this year with two losses to LSU & Bama only. We go in next year near the top.

Whats up with Kirk and the Razorback helmet in his home office? He is pumping Razorbacks real good.

  15. Are you kidding? You would rather play the #20 ranked team over the #8 ranked team? Beating #20 probably wouldn’t help us in final BCS standings (might even be passed by other winners), while beating a #8 would probably move us up over a couple of higher teams that will lose. I think the Cotton Bowl pulled a little coup here, getting two top 10 teams, while the “bigger and better” non-BCS bowls will end up with lower ranking top 20 matchups.

  16. BCS Format is obviously flawed. Hogs should be in a BCS bowl being ranked #6. We need to not take KST lightly. Hopefully we roll them for recruiting purposes and national acclaim. WPS!

  17. “Arkansas trails the all-time series with Kansas State 1-3, but the teams last met in 1926.”

Correction: the last time we met K State was in 1967.

  18. Glad to see the talking heads running the BCS system down. Its a totally flawed system and everyone knows it.
Ready to party at Jerry’s house, always a fun trip !
    WPS !

  19. By going to the Cotton Bowl, we will playing:

    a) A higher ranked team (#8)
    b) In an area that we recruit heavily
    c) On a day (Jan 6th) where we get the spotlight to ourselves
    d) In the best stadium on the planet
    e) In a game where we will easily have the majority of fans

What’s not to like? I understand the BCS rules suck….but this is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than going to the Capital One Bowl and playing the Big 10.

  20. Historically, the Cotton was everyone’s goal when we were in the old SWC. Great tradition and even better hospitality. A gazillion Arkansas fans will make it a home game. This will be one big tailgate party with a nice K State desert.

The rule stating no more than 2 from the same conference in the BCS was published before the season began. We got stroked on a BCS game, but the Cotton will be well attended and a lot of good memories will be made. Cotton is a great reward for our players, too. Bring on K State. As gladiators used to say in ancient Rome, “those who are about to die salute you.”

  21. Scott, Plus I am at home and can spend the money for elaborate tailgate versus travel expenses :-)

Kansas State ranked #103 against the pass. McGee may have moved too soon. Tyler and crew have got to be up for this one.

Willy defense should have no excuse as they have #92 offense and guess what they will try to run. Please have plan to stop in first quarter.

  22. Yah, the Cotton Bowl has become more highly regarded now that it’s moved to Jerry World. Don’t forget that earlier in the year when the Fiesta Bowl Org. got in trouble and they were considering stripping the BCS bowl from them, that it was basically a known fact that the Cotton Bowl was going to take it’s place as a BCS bowl. They ended up letting the Fiesta Bowl keep it’s place in the BCS though.

  23. If were not playing for the National Championship then what difference does it make?
Who finished 4th or 5th last year? Doesn’t matter at all. Cotton Bowl is a great bowl for us but lets not caulk up a win till the score board says we won it.
It’s Good To Be a Pig!

  24. Arkansas has another bowl game against a team they will overlook, that has a QB that can run the ball as good as any in the country, against one of the best coaches in the history of college football, that they will lose because they have a defense that couldn’t keep containment on a QB if their lives depended on it. And an idiotic fan base that has no clue how to not get cocky when they think they should win a game. And the fact that K-State will be extremely fired up to play an SEC team, and Arkansas will lack motivation, which they always do in bowl games. Not exactly something to celebrate..IMHO.. Get the New Year off to a losing start, per usual.

  25. Think about it…playing in Cowboy Stadium…the most beautiful stadium in the world. Playing the number eight team in the nation in a fertile recruiting area for the Hogs as stated above. NO other games on tv that day. With a chance, a very good chance to be 11-1 by the end of the day. LIFE IS GOOD

  26. Great news! The Capital 1 Bowl is a has been. The Cotton Bowl is the “Cougar” of Bowls. It is the attractive older woman who preys on young men. We will have more fans than them in an area in which we reruit. We will dominate K-State. I remember Lou Holtz’s great quote about them living a lie. They have no defense and their offense is generic. Final score: Arkansas 48 Kansas State 17. Next question, when does fall practice start?

  27. Only relevant difference between bowls is that one plays Big 10 #2 in Florida and the other Big 12 #2 in Dallas, Add about $100k for Capital One but money is irrelevant as it will all be split among all in SEC. But without question Cowboys Stadium is the hottest venue period right now. Weather will not be a factor for game. We need a win badly, it does matter because if we are #4 or #5 to end the year we may start the same next year. It is desirable to be highly ranked preseason 2012 versus having to work your way up from #15 like we did this year.

  28. The only thing that worked out in this bowl is that Kansas State is #8. Period. When we win we will move up and it will help our recruiting. Outside of that there is nothing here as an advantage.

The team gets an additional $200,000 in travel expenses for going to the Capital One Bowl. You give Steve Spurrier an edge and he just brought in a good class of 4 and 5 star recruits last year.

Anyway, we need to concentrate on Kansas State.

  29. I dont understand why everybody wants to play a better team when you can look in the top 15 and see it doesnt matter who you play as long as you win see ( Houston, Boise, Oregon, Stanford, Virginia Tech ).

  30. We better be focused and ready to play football. Kansas State is a very good football team. We need to win this game for recruiting and for the future of the program.

  31. if you think we will run over kansas state, your nuts.
the big 12 was the best overall conference in the country. the SEC east was pitiful, SEC west, best by far. cotton bowl, only game that night, plenty of offense because we can’t stop the run, thanks willy. great for recruiting, will be great for our fans and players.
those that are bitching about us not playing in a BCS bowl, we didn’t take care of business because we don’t care about playing defense. we knew the rules, two teams per conference, we could be playing for the national championship, had two chances, blew them both.
because K/state is two dimensional, we will have a hard time winning this game.

  32. Well, now we know “Idaho” Razorback is working for one of the greatest coaches in college football history. Or is just a RZB hater. Or the 3rd option is just an idiot. K-state will be highly motivated, they’re already trying to win the psychological battle, as we see above. I just hope all of those white people, don’t bring down that Westboro crowd to Dallas with them. They already threatened to do that once this yr.

  33. The Cotton Bowl is better for us from a number of perspectives as laid out above. The main thing is to beat Kansas State and finish with our only losses being to the #1 and #2. Let’s go, Hogs!

  34. K-State wins by forcing turnovers, they’re 7th in the nation in turnover margin. 29th best rushing offense, and considering Arkansas struggles against running QB’s, and running teams in general, that’s a bad sign. overall they’re probably the best overall special teams team in the country, every kickoff they get It seems like they return it to the 50 or better, 10th overall in kickoff returns. Here is the thing with K-state, they’re a time of possession team, they get the ball, keep the ball, get ahead, and force turnovers, they’re the 5th best team in the nation in time of possession. They’re one of the most disciplined units in college football, currently the 9th best team in the nation in penalties. they make every 4th down opportunity, currently 6th in the nation.
This is a real challenge for Arkansas to get a win against a team that should have been in a BCS game, if not for a let down the week after their KU game.

  35. Jeff Edgmon im not worried about the Hogs overlooking Kansas-ST,i am concerned Bill Snyder will do enough on offense to keep Willy confused, plus throw in some new wrinkles,it may be Kansas-st but the Hogs better have their tails in overdrive if they want to win.

  36. Who is this Jeff Edgmon person?
Do you still wish Houston Nutt in control?
Are you having a bad week?

For sure, Cotton Bowl is way better for us than the Capital One. And of all the teams that we could have played, I like our chances against K State better than anyone else. And I’m really glad we didn’t get Baylor.

In Actuality, we should have. K State got hosed by the Sugar Bowl. What a joke that V Tech is going there. Please.

Anyway, I still hold that Garrett Uekman’s death took it out of us, and that we will be back to MS State / Tennessee form for all our fans in Dallas.

  37. My real name is Houston Nutt and I am bitter that the best job I can get now is at Memphis……oops….did I just type that??

  38. A few of you people are morons, Petrino is a better coach than Nutt, and I’m not sure what the relevancy is, oh yeah, you still think Malzahn is the greatest football mind since Lombardi, I forgot. Which is why you want to have people assume wins, so you can get Lombardi Jr to be the head coach after you force Petrino out. Notice these same people never assume wins that Lombardi Jr is coaching, wonder why? Oh yeah, no personal agenda there, forgot. This is football moron, you NEVER assume any win ever, everytime you morons do, you make Arkansas look bad, almost without exception. You would think you would have learned that by now, even a lab rat learns what buttons to push to get the food to come down the tube after a while. You can really tell the difference between fans and people who have played the game, fans make comments like az hog and Idaho hog, players assume nothing EVER. I’m done, seriously, if you people didn’t learn anything after the Ole Miss debacle, trying to talk sense into you is impossible. K State is 4 real now, Klein runs as good, if not better than anyone else, go ahead and do.your idocy again, I will enjoy laughing at you on Friday the 9th. And when Lombardi Jr gets here, I will really enjoy laughing at consistent beatings.

  39. I remember when these rocket scientists overlooked the Citadel a few yrs back..LOL.. That one was funny, lost to an average Citadel team, and then won the next week against SOUTH CAROLINA..LOL. Even every idiot in South Carolina was laughing at ya after that one. The funny thing is they never seem to grasp the concept, that you NEVER assume anything.. Doesn’t really seem that hard to me.

  40. Cotton Bowl is better! Better than Sugar and Orange this year! Huge exposure for Friday night game! Fox TV and Jerry will promote this game like never before! Will be great for recruiting!!!! The Hog fans need to buy all tickets!!

  41. Jeff Edgmon is an idiot. Crawl back in your hole…troll!

  42. Motel Stay
“My brother and I attended the Sugar Bowl. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. Service was friendly. Caught a bus to the Superdome. $24 cab ride back after the game. Breakfast was good.”

I’m an idiot, you’re the one that paid $24.00 for a cab ride, how much did bro pay? LOL.. And screw you prick.. I also notice you were the idiot talking smack before the Alabama game in another thread, and some Alabama fan came in and actually commented on how over confident you were. And you said the same things about him. No son, the idiot and troll is you! In fact, anyone who is ever over confident about ANYTHING ever is an idiot! You never underestimate anyone or anything, which you definitely have a pattern of.

  43. It is always better to be ready for anything and everything, than to be overly confident and unprepared, thus look like a fool.. Which Tuskerfan has three times this yr alone..LOL.. I guess he’s getting use to it though..

  44. Ha. Ha. Ha. The Hog fans are in a total meltdown over a Cotton Bowl. I can see there’s a reason they’ve never won a bowl game ever now.. Oh wait, i think they beat UNLV a couple yrs ago in the Fight Hunger/San Diego Federal Credit Union bowl or something like that. In their minds they’ve already won the game and are planning the party. We will blow them out, their fans are cocky, they will not be ready, and they will lose in a blowout is my predicion. I watched their Auburn game last year, they cannot stop a running game, we will wipe their defense out.. 55-21 KSU win!

  45. if Petrino goes out and signs some Bad ass Defensive players we will stop all this negative about the defense, and i must say i have been one that gets a little rankled when i see other teams plowing through our Defense, but the sad truth is CP hired a Freind to Coach his defense,Les Myles hired John Chavas,NUFF SAID.

  46. its not surprising to see that we’ve been screwed over by the failed, flawed, unfair,BSc system once again.what a sad thing it is when’money and politics’are the reason the ncaa doesnt do what they absolutely know is the right thing and switch over to a fair playoff system,i will never understand how the hell FOUR teams ranked BELOW us could reach better bowls than the hogs! WHAT A FREEKIN JOKE!! but i assume they let the BCS monkey out of his cage to pick the bowl games,i guess the top 5 teams are all happy since they all got a bcs bowl.then the bcs monkey took over, seriously thats how it seems.oh well i guess we can fully expect to be screwed like this in the future also, maybe someday the fans will stop watching and attending college football games just long enough to FORCE the ncaa to rid this great sport of the bcs monkey!

  47. Hello Wildcat#33 – The only one having a meltdown is someone named Jeff Edgmon. Pretty cocky and bold prediction you are making. You are a fan of the same Kansas State team that was drilled by lowly OU by 41 points only a few weeks ago! The Razorbacks will be very much prepared for you as well.

  48. The BCS is a joke- why have BCS standings if they are not followed. Automatic
bids are a joke also- BEst teams best bowls. Hey, I am not a Boise State Fan
but one loss and going to the Las Vegas Bowl. We are in a no win situation- if
we lose bad if we win we were supposed to. No respect from anybody until we
can beat Alabama on a semi regular basis. Hopefully it starts next year.

    Go Hogs

  49. In the immortal words of Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) in Zombieland, “Time to nut up or shut up.” This is our opportunity to win a high profile bowl against a solid opponent on a night when there are no other games to watch, and finish the season ranked in the top 5. I haven’t done the research, but I’m thinking the last time we were ranked in the top 5 at the end of the bowl season was 1978 (win over Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl, finished season #3).

Kansas State will be tough, but this is an eminently winnable game for us.

Wildcat33, not sure who you are or why you’ve introduced yourself talking such smack, but we welcome the opportunity to play K-State and look forward to a great game.

  50. A higher seeded opponent would’ve been nice but the Cotton Bowl is terrific… great venue, great exposure, great recruiting opportunity and K-State will be a very good test. A dominating win will put the team in the top 5 at the end of this season and set the stage for another great year next year. That said, K-State will not go quietly and the team has a lot of distractions with McGee gone and Horton’s name being mentioned as a potential replacement for Hugh Freeze at ASU. Time to stop the whining, give thanks for the opportunity at the Cotton Bowl, and get behind our Hogs. WPS!!

  51. Not that I support, not that it I think it is right or wrong:

But the BCS was designed to get the top two teams in the NC game; and to assure all of the BCS conference champions were put in the top tier bowls. They left a little wiggle room to add an at large school based on some legalnese.

Now that is why the BCS does what it does. It has done that to a T. The real irony is that most outside of SEC are arguing against BCS now; but if there were playoffs who’s to say we still would not have top 4 or top 2 teams from one conference in the playoffs or finals? It happens in NCAA all the time. If they argue “MUST” be Conference Champion, then that is system we have now with all of the lower ranked schools in the top tier bowls. Only Bama would go from NC game to lower tier like Arkansas. You basically are saying only 1 from each conference? That is mad.

With all the nonsense aside, we have great bowl, great opponent, and and open paper and in Vegas we will be the favorite. Not overconfident, but someone will be favored. LSU / Bama were favored over Arkansas and won, we were favored in every other game and won. I expect we will be favored and win this one too. Color me baddd if you will, just sayin…

  52. ya know,if the ncaa is going to continue to slice up the top 25 teams at the end of the season w their bsc system, they should at least realize that the top 5 bcs bowls should be played by the top 10 teams!! sheeesh cant they teach that to the freeking monkey? THEY are the ones that pick and choose what teams are at the top. i dont care about the 3 team rule! i just want whats fair. the bcs has the orange and the sugar bowls totally wrong! what a freeking jip! i honestly believe now that even if we would have beat LSU the bcs monkey would have surely conjured up some way to rank them higher than the hogs and we would have been screwed by the bcs at a shot for the title anyway. the bcs have made it absolutely clear, that they are very biased towards certain teams, and so are the talking heads and most of the game announcers.

  53. FYI, NCAA has nothing to do with the BCS or it’s selection process. It is all of the major conferences with votes from Presidents that developed. I am not trying to be negative, but trying to help get what little facts I know. I am sure other can elaborate.

For example, when they voted they were trying to protect the same conferences that have low ranked teams in BCS Bowls. If you did what we view as fair, then Big East and ACC schools would be missing about 15 million dollars. Big 10 would likely lose 15 million because Michigan would be out. SEC would would have 45 million dollar payout maybe 60 million if South Carolina was selected at large?

Again, don’t look at me as the defender, I am not, I am just trying to get the info out to those that I sense feel the pain. IT IS MONEY DRIVEN. (Surprised? Not :-)

  54. Sounds like Jeff is the overconfident one and overlooking the Hogs! Plus, why will you be laughing on Fri the 9th? Got to get your dates right.

On another note, I’m not happy that we didn’t get a BCS bowl (but I understand the rules), but I am glad we are playing in the Cotton bowl. Good exposure for recruiting and our back yard! I’m disappointed we are playing K-State, was hoping for OK or OK State (sorry Jeff). Not saying K-State doesn’t deserve it or isn’t a good team this year…but it’s K-State. They’ve had one or two good seasons ever….hardly a power house team as some of their fans seem to think above.

But with their running QB and their style of play, we most definitely can’t overlook them. They have a great coach and a good team. I think we win and I don’t think the Big 12 is the best conference top to bottom either…there’s some teams that didn’t deserve to be ranked in the first place. K-State was 6th (at one time) because they were undefeated, but they didn’t beat anyone that’s worth mentioning. Texas is overrated…the list goes on and on.

  55. Dear Jeff Edgmon: While I agree that you should never be over confident…..here is where you ARE an idiot:

    1) You can’t call it a “debacle” when you don’t lose the game. Arkansas may have overlooked Ole Miss, but they ended up winning.

    2) Really?? The Citadel game? You are going back not games….not years….but decades? What’s next? Shall we talk about how we shouldn’t have blown the lead to Texas the game that Nixon attended?

  56. Prediction,, Two team BCS rule gets changed to 3 next year and they will add The Cotton Bowl to the BCS Bowls so to at least add a couple more deserving teams into the BCS Bowls, Just watch.

  57. rmmr, I am with you. They also need to have some type of minimum standard for the Conference Champions. i.e must be in top 14, if not; they forfeit their appearance, work out an arrangement to split the money with the conference that is losing their spot so they do get something.

They need to eliminate the coaches poll (conflict of interest) and bring in AP to go with Harris & computers. They need to ban the Colley computers away from the system. If I did not know better, I could guess Colley must be Houston Nutt’s relative, agent protector or something? Colley has Hogs ranked #12. For the most part his vote is always tossed from Hogs calculation. I wish to relay the CBP to CLM post game message to him in the exact form and context…. :-)

  58. Here’s what i see:

    1. Capitol One picked South Carolina for money. Closer to their fans and will have a bigger turnout. THEY KNOW WE ARE A BETTER TEAM THAN SC

    2. SC coaches, including arrogant Spurrier, admitted that ARK was a better team in all phases after we dominated them.

    3. Cotton Bowl is cloer to home which is good for fans.

    4. K-State is a much higher rated team and will give us a better rating if we win.

5 If we beat K-State someone above us will get beat and we will be in the final 5 in BCS. That needs to be our gaol–getin the final 5. folks reember that. TV oftern only talk about top 5 and give less to 6 through 10.

  59. Those of you who are feeling like we got ‘jobbed’ by not going to Orlando, consider a few things.

First, aside from the money issue (okay, so that is a big issue, I understand), the Cotton Bowl is just a more attractive bowl for us, especially this year. It’s closer, more of our fans will go, Cowboy’s Stadium is light years nicer than decrepit old Capital One Bowl Stadium, another bowl is played in that stadium just a few days before that game so the field will be a health hazard, and we match up better against K-State than most Big 10 teams.

Second, by team rankings we are in the 3rd best bowl, behind only the BCS Championship Game and the Fiesta Bowl. If we were in the Capital One Bowl, we’d be farther down the list.

Third, as I posted earlier, we will have that whole night and TV audience to ourselves.

    Fourth, recruiting, recruiting, recruiting.

Don’t know if this will change any minds, but it is what it is and we now have the opportunity to show the country just how good we are.

  60. Memphis (my homeboy, I am originally from Forrest City)

I am not so sure the $200,000 is really an advantage? I thought it was extra for travel expenses? Costs in Orlando is likely to be a lot greater than Dallas. End of the day, you fly down, ride elaborate buses, stay in plush hotel and pig out on steaks every day. I don’t think it is like the Athletic department sees as windfall. I get the same type of increased expenses for going to New York, DC, or San Francisco.

We are in best place given existing rules. We just need to win the freaking game BADLY!!! Our credibilty within the SEC is at stake. We did not hold serve against Ohio State last year. We need dominating win over Bevo League school to help legitimize the Bama selection and our position as top 5.

  61. Amen to all of that, Hog Authority. Net $$ will probably be better with Cotton Bowl, and yes, it is high time we really show up for a bowl game. Our last bowl game worth writing home about was the 2000 Cotton Bowl win over Texas. We’ve won a couple since then, but not the type of wins you recall with fondness. This would be one for sure.

By the way, I’m a transplant over here, since ’05. I’m originally from Lonoke and never lived more than 30 miles from Little Rock until I turned 45.

  62. RNR82, which Jeff Edgmon, the Jeff real Jeff Edgmon, or the Jeff Edgmon that assumed my name fictitiously?

And Norm; You have to call it a debacle, when you overlook an opponent that was laid out by La Tech and Miss St, and you talk so much crap about your former coach, that you fire them up to the point you could have lost the game. To me, that’s the textbook definition of idiocy, and obviously if you think it wasn’t a debacle, then the only idiot here is you. As to the Citadel, I always use that as a prime example when idiots like you get carried away with themselves, which you always seem to do after you’ve had even mediocre success. Heck, even Nutt has won a couple of Cotton Bowl’s, so keep it in check.

  63. Everyone seems to think Texas is better for recruiting, and it may be if the coaches get out in the field and recruit for 2013 and beyond. As for this upcoming recruiting class, I think Arkansas only has about 6 spots remaining, and most of the highly recruited Texas kids are already committed. That’s not to say they can’t change their minds. Arkansas needs to first address their coaching issues. Second, get ready for the bowl game. I could care a less about the location of the bowl game personally, just focus and win one for a change. 2-1 under Petrino looks much-much better than 1-2, especially considering if not for a Mallett INT, you would be 3-0.

I’m an Arkansas fan, I just am a fan from the real world, and don’t like stupid comments like the one Idaho Hog made above, talking about, and I quote “The next question is when does fall practice start” The one “Norm” made about the Hogs won, so it wasn’t a debacle..LOL.. Clearly missing the point altogether.
The comment “azhog” made about liking our chances against K-state more than anyone else. Which is a completely dumb statement, even if you think that. Arkansas struggles against running QB’s, and this guy runs a lot, more than their running backs. And like I say, Snyder is one of the best coaches in the history of the game, he will have them ready.

  64. Dont know if you guys saw how people for the Harris Poll voted but here is a link

  65. And just let me say I am proud of our RAZORBACKS! I am proud of our SEC CONFRENCE. GOOD LUCK to our HOGS! And GOOD LUCK to normally all our FOES! LSU, BAMA, SC, FLORIDA, GEORGIA, AUBURN, VANDY, and MIS ST.. Man what a confrence, lets go 8-1 in the games with the only loss coming in the Nat. Champ game, Being they our both SEC teams. HA HA Man why are we so cocky in the SEC,? I guess the above explains it! WPS!

  66. I must admit I have not watched K state play this year. Wonder what kind of offense and defense they play. Are they more of a passing team or run oriented team? Are they pro style or more spread?

  67. K-State is a running team with their QB as their leading rusher. He is not a T.Martinez or D.Robinson type runner; more of a bruiser. Hate to say a Tebow type because he is certainly not in that class, but he is a hard-nosed guy and he’d just as soon keep the ball as hand it off or pitch it. Another comparison might be Matt Jones, although he’s not as tall and doesn’t have that type of speed. He is not a passer and their pass offense is pretty weak. Definitely not a spread team.

Defensively K-State appears to be a typical Big 12 defense, meaning they try to get by on forcing turnovers, not preventing yards. As long as we take care of the ball and T.Wilson makes good decisions in the pocket, we should be able to score quite a bit on them.

  68. I always thought the DE took the QB with or without the ball, it is the LB and corners responsibility for RB? Our DE’s get caught on a pass rush or slant and our DBs try to play both QB & RB and get beat. We need to force tight coverage in secondary and contain the option making them throw or forcing turnovers. When we get up with lead then we can drop back and play normal coverage. When the defense does look good we are being aggressive.

  69. Boy, just reading all the trash talk from the k-state fans on that
http://goemaw.com/forum/index.php?topic=17202.100 site. I normally ((never)) talk smack, but when they say playing Arkansas hurts the image of their program, and then trash Garrett Uekman, those are some kind of devil worshiping kklan people right there.
That hit an all time record low there. Like Kansas has something to brag about? I was born in KC, huge Chiefs fan all of my life, grew up playing as a kid on the old astroturf at Arrowhead. Kansas doesn’t have ANYTHING to brag about, they have hate mongers there that would have been thrown out of over half of the states in America for their behavior, and shot in the other half. I.E. Westboro Babtist church. And KC is very diverse, one of the most diverse cities in America, but the rest of the state is what 99% white, they got some nerve calling Arkansas a racist state. Like they’re any better.. There not racist, they have no other races there to be racist against. And at least Arkansas would have run that trash picketing at military funeral’s out of their state after the first time they pulled that crap. They feel right at home in Kansas however. Thank God KC is not like the rest of Kansas, or I would have to deny my heritage.

  70. Thank you for your entire efforts on this website. Kim enjoys working on investigations and it’s really simple to grasp why. All of us hear all regarding the dynamic manner you convey simple strategies through the blog and as well as attract participation from other individuals on that area so my simple princess is starting to learn a lot of things.
